Two Black Women Appointed to Dean Posts at Florida A&M University

Deidré Keller will be the next dean of the Florida A&M University College of Law in Orlando. She has been serving as a professor and associate dean of the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University in Ada. Professor Keller joined Ohio Northern University in 2010 as an assistant professor of law. She was promoted to full professor with tenure in 2016. Professor Keller will begin her new job in July.

A native of Georgetown, Guyana, Professor Keller grew up in the Bronx, New York. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and sociology from Yale University and a juris doctor with honors from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta.

Bettye Grable has been named the acting dean of the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University. Dr. Grable has been a professor of public relations at the school since 2006. She also served two terms as president of the Faculty Senate. Earlier in her career, Professor Grable taught at Boston University.

Grable earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. She holds a master’s degree from Florida A&M University and earned a doctorate in public affairs and mass communication from Louisiana State University.

In Memoriam: O. Jerome Green, 1954-2024

President of historically Black Shorter College O. Jerome Green passed way unexpectedly on April 8. Since he became president in 2012, the college has experienced record-breaking enrollment and graduation rates, created new academic programs, and established the STEM Center for Academic Excellence.
