Individuals appointed as clinical professors – medical series are experienced practitioners or teachers in their professions or fields of expertise.  The responsibilities of the position include teaching (including, in some cases, clinical instruction), and may include research.  Clinical professors – medical series are full-time, non-tenure track positions.

The Department of Medical Education at the CUNY School of Medicine is seeking a Family Medicine Clerkship Director/Academic Coach who is passionate about teaching and will provide a transitional presence between the classroom-based curriculum and the practice-based curriculum of Clerkships. The Family Medicine Clerkship Director will teach in the pre-clerkship and clerkship curriculum, and provide oversight of the family medicine site directors and coordinators. The Family Medicine Clerkship Director will report directly to the Assistant Dean for the Clinical Curriculum.

The Family Medicine Clerkship Director Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Develop didactic curriculum for the CSOM Family Medicine clerkship.
  • Evaluate, and revise the Family Medicine clerkship
  • Provide supervision of the Family Medicine clerkship sites and site directors and coordinators.
  • Teach family medicine clinical skills and provide feedback to students.
  • Prepare student grades for all Family Medicine required assignments.
  • Provide faculty development and oversight for Family Medicine faculty, including residents.
  • Serve on the Curriculum Committee and other committees as assigned.
  • Assist in teaching and assessing clinical skills for pre-clerkship and clerkship students
  • Serve as a Step 1 coach for pre-clerkship students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical degree from an accredited university.
  • Must be a board-certified Family Medicine physician.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in New York State.
  • Minimum five years experience as a Clerkship Director or in educational leadership, teaching medical students and/or residents.
  • Experience in faculty and curriculum and assessment development and in advising medical students.
  • Skilled educator with the ability to perform bedside and classroom teaching.

  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory qualifies of personality and character, a record of achievements in his/her profession or field of expertise, and a willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
