New Administrative Positions for Four African Americans at Colleges and Universities

Maisha Williams was appointed vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. She has been serving as interim associate vice president for financial management at George Washington University. Earlier, she was the assistant controller at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Williams is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York, where she majored in accounting. She is completing work on an MBA at George Washington University.

Alex Gary was named director of athletics at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, effective May 1. He has been serving as senior associate athletics director for development at Oregon State University. He previously served as associate athletics director for development and external relations at the University of Maryland from 2014 until 2017.

A former student-athlete on the Western Carolina University baseball team, Gary earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master’s degree in business administration at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Sarah Onori was named Title IX and civil rights investigator at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She has been serving as Title IX coordinator at Northeastern University in Boston.

The youngest member of a first-generation Nigerian American family, Onori is a graduate of Boston College and the Northeastern University School of Law.

Haley Gingles is the new director of communications and media relations at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. She is the former director of marketing and communications for the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce.

Gingles is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in communication studies.
