In Memorial: Don Alden Crewell, 1952-2020

Don Crewell, director of financial aid at the California Institute of Technology, passed away on March 17, after a long illness. He was 67 years ago.

A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, as a young boy Crewell moved to New Jersey with his family. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history and government at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Crewell joined Caltech as director of financial aid in 2007, a position he maintained until November 2019. Joe Shepherd, Caltech’s vice president for student affairs state that Crewell “was compassionate and thoughtful, and provided that personal touch that we believe characterizes our work with students and families.”

Before joining the staff at Caltech, Crewell was director of financial aid at the California College of the Arts, director of enrollment and student services at the California School of Professional Psychology, and associate director of financial aid at Lehigh University.
