Brookdale Community College — Instructor, Nursing

Position Summary:
Must be able to facilitate student learning and help students in applying nursing theories and principles to the practice of nursing. The incumbent will conduct classes and/or supervise clinical experiences and simulations as assigned. The successful candidate will have a commitment to working with a diverse student population, collaborative learning, use new technologies in the classroom, and be able to assume a role in online education. This position requires experience in the development, integration, and evaluation of simulation-based activities. Excellent communication skills are also required, as is an openness to new pedagogies and a willingness to participate in departmental curriculum collaboration and outcome assessment. Work and or teaching experience specific to community health nursing and/or mental health nursing will be preferred.

  • Provide classroom instruction appropriate to learning needs, desired learner outcomes, content and context using a variety of instructional materials and technologies. Didactic instruction also includes: preparing; proctoring; correcting; grading; and posting exam grades.
  • Provide clinical instruction which includes: selecting appropriate patient assignments; supervising and instructing students as they provide direct patient care; conducting daily pre- and post-conferences; providing formative and summative evaluation of student progress.
  • Collaborate with agency personnel in planning and implementing student experiences that develop and strengthen students’ critical thinking and clinical reasoning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop simulation activities to promote student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision making.
  • Foster relationships with community agencies in an effort to support and build clinical liaisons.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the program outcomes in compliance with appropriate regulatory and
    accrediting agency requirements.
  • Orient new part-time faculty to course and program requirements.
  • Participate fully in Department, Institute, and College meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing, and NJ RN license.
  • Evidence of well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.

  • Evidence of understanding about and commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community
    college.
  • Experience in using technology in the classroom and in collaborative learning.
  • Evidence of experience using simulation software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College teaching experience.
  • 5 years clinical experience.
  • Evidence of teaching as a prime career focus.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of team-centered participatory nature.
  • Evidence of engagement in a professional organization.
  • Knowledge of web-enhanced or online instruction.

Salary: Low to mid $60’s (Faculty members teaching extra courses or working additional hours during the academic year and in the summer receive additional compensation.) *This position may be staffed at the Assistant Professor level.
