Williams College — Senior Associate Dean of Academic Engagement

The Williams College Office of the Dean of the College is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for a Senior Associate Dean of Academic Engagement. This new position will provide leadership and direction to offices and programs that support students’ academic experience and will oversee the offices of Academic Resources (Writing, Quantitative Skills, Peer Tutoring), International Education & Study Away, Fellowships, the Center for Learning in Action, and Winter Study Coordinator. The Senior Associate Dean will provide support and oversight to these offices, and work to strengthen their connections with other campus stakeholders.

Collaborating with the Dean of the College on strategic initiatives, the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Engagement will provide leadership in enhancing systems to track and assess student progress, and in identifying opportunities for proactive student support. They will provide leadership and oversight (in collaboration with the Dean of First-Year Students) for the first and second-year faculty advising system, and guide the development of emerging initiatives to support academic success. They will serve as a liaison from the Dean of the College office on academic committees and will work in close partnership with the Senior Associate Dean of Students and the Senior Associate Dean of Residential Life to oversee holistic support for all students.

The Dean’s Office provides comprehensive support as Williams students navigate their experiences at the College.  In partnership with students, faculty, and staff across campus, this office aims to promote students’ growth and abilities during and after their college experience. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.   • Doctorate with 5 – 7 years higher education experience in administrative/faculty roles centered on supporting academic success;
  • Demonstrated experience building and sustaining programs/systems that offer proactive and effective student support;
  • Outstanding leadership, written and oral communication and organizational skills, with demonstrated experience leading teams in the implementation of innovative programs/processes; 
  • Prior professional work with diverse student populations and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion; strong understanding of complex issues as relates to race, equity, diversity, and social justice;
  • A creative, energetic, and collaborative administrator with the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and administrators to develop and advance institutional goals;
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to work effectively and lead teams;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of discretion for work with sensitive materials.
