The Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH) welcomes applications and nominations for the role of Vice Dean for Education (VDE). The School continues to be at the forefront of training the next generation of interdisciplinary leaders to solve the world’s most pressing and complex public health challenges. A pacesetter in educational innovation and excellence for public health, its MPH curriculum has, in many ways, defined the standard for the field and its recent development of in hybrid learning position it to lead dramatic shifts in online learning. Approaching its 100th anniversary, the School is continuously innovating; the office of education has experienced—and will continue to see—remarkable evolution to meet the needs of students and learners in the 21st century. MSPH requires a visionary educational leader to coalesce these recent advances; lead on transforming the educational goals and contents of public health; build new programs and innovations; and collaborate across the School and with myriad partners within and beyond Columbia University. 

Reporting to the Dean of the School and serving as a critical member of the School’s executive leadership team, the VDE will continue to expand and refine the School’s educational offerings with attention to pedagogical innovation, diversification of the educational portfolio including new content, delivery methods, and new programs including, for example, non-degree executive education. Additionally, the VDE leads recruitment, retention, and support of a diverse and talented student body. The VDE will work to develop the School’s vision with a focus on interdisciplinarity and on educational scholarship. The next VDE will work closely with faculty to engage in and encourage interdisciplinary discussion across the School and University by leading communication and serving as an advocate for change and collaboration.

The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in education innovation and in leading a broad portfolio. The next VDE must possess a deep understanding of higher education and ideally public health, and indirect leadership in an elite academic setting.
