Coastal Carolina University — Director of International Student and Scholar Services

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Director of International and Student Scholar Services (Student Services Manager I) in the Center for Global Engagement.   

Serving as a part of a dynamic team supporting campus internationalization initiatives, this colleague will direct the strategic vision for international students and scholars and their support and engagement on our campus and community.  This individual will help to advance engagement to fulfill the university’s strategic plan to increase international student enrollment and international scholar engagement on our campus.  Reporting to the Associate Provost for Global Initiatives, this colleague will:   

  • Serve as the university’s Principal Designated School Officer (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) with the US SEVP, guiding institutional compliance on measures related to reporting, programming, processing, communication and training as required for international students and scholars; 
  • Develop, approve and implement strategic programming supportive of acculturation for international students and scholars, including budget management oversight;
  • Coordinate with and remain in regular communication with various offices across campus in support of international students and scholars, including serving on campus committees in support of such collaboration; 
  • Supervise the work of the International Student Services Adviser and student employees, providing training, monitoring, budget oversight and performance assessment to provide effective management of the intercultural experience community, exchange student experience and other activities;
  • Contribute actively to the strategic planning and campus globalization initiatives as a member of the team of directors within the Center for Global Engagement;
  • Oversee the development of resources and practices to improve advising, communication with and engagement of international students and scholars with the larger community, advances programming;  
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large; and   
  • Complete other duties as assigned, including occasional travel away from campus in support of job tasks and gathering, evaluating, and acting on data and analyses gleaned from assessment to generate continuous improvement. 

Requirements: Master’s degree; at least three (3) years’ experience in international student services with at least two (2) years’ experience as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) (or equivalent).  Driver’s license and a current, valid passport without restriction to travel are required.  Active member of NAFSA.  Must remain eligible at all times, per immigration guidelines, to serve as SEVIS Principal Designated School Officer (PDSO)/Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), and submit to and pass ongoing background checks as a requirement of this position.

Preferences: Master’s degree in area related to or in support of services to be provided to international student population.  Experience with Datatel and T-4 systems is preferred.  Ability to communicate in at least one language other than English is preferred, with preference given to Chinese or Arabic.
