Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center — President

The Board of Regents and Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System (TTU System) invite nominations, inquiries and applications in its national search for the President position at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC).

The President serves as the chief executive officer of TTUHSC and is responsible for the executive management of its operations, including overall leadership in the planning and management of the academic, medical, research, service, fiscal, administrative, operational and managed care missions of TTUHSC.

Established in 1969 as a medical school, TTUHSC has evolved into a comprehensive health-related university within the TTU System, offering multiple academic programs through its five schools (biomedical sciences, health professions, medicine, nursing and pharmacy) and statewide campuses in Abilene, Amarillo, Dallas/Fort Worth, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa. Headquartered in Lubbock, Texas, TTUHSC enrolls approximately 5,300 students and serves approximately 2,300 distance education students across the nation. The university boasts more than 30,000 alumni, 24 percent of whom remain in TTUHSC’s 108-county service area. Today, TTUHSC graduates more health care professionals than any other health-related institution in the state and was ranked among the ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ in 2019.

The next President of TTUHSC will have an outstanding opportunity to build upon the university’s significant expansion and transformation over the last decade, and will succeed Dr. Tedd L. Mitchell, who served in the position from 2010 to 2019 and is the current Chancellor of the TTU System. The Board of Regents and Chancellor seek a visionary, collaborative, and forward-thinking President who will merit broad-based respect and strengthen the university’s position as a leader in health care education, research and patient care service in the region, across Texas and beyond. Additional qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Earned doctorate or equivalent terminal professional degree. 
  • Extensive professional, administrative and public experience, including experience relating to an institution of higher education or professional school. 
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and integrity in an academic, research and health care environment. 
  • An exemplary record of scholarly, professional and individual credentials. 
  • An established record of forward-thinking vision and innovation with proven significant results.
  • A commitment to applied research and interprofessional collaboration. 
  • A commitment to diversity and a culture where values are forefront.

The TTUHSC President is appointed by the TTU System Board of Regents, with a recommendation from the Chancellor (the TTU System’s Chief Executive Officer).  The President reports directly to the Chancellor and is a peer direct report with the Presidents of Texas Tech University, Angelo State University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.
