A Trio of African Americans Taking on New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

James A. Felton III was appointed vice president for equity and inclusion at The College of New Jersey in Ewing. He has been serving as the chief diversity officer at the State University of New York at Cortland. Felton will begin his new job on March 2.

Felton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. He is currently studying for a Ph.D. in global leadership studies from the Indiana Institute of Technology.

Nadirah Pippen has been named the new director of the Career Center at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She has been serving as interim director since May 2019. Before joining the Career Center in 2018, Pippen worked for East Carolina University and Edgecombe Community College.

Pippen holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in counselor education from East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina.

Cheryl A. Brown is the new assistant vice provost for residential education at Stanford University. Brown came to Stanford a decade ago and has served as associate director of African and African American studies.

Dr. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in Black studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She earned a master’s degree in African American studies, a master’s degree in education, and a doctoral degree in education, higher education and organizational change from the University of California, Los Angeles.
