Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director and the Senior Director, the Annual Giving Officer manages daily activity of the Abramson Cancer Center's Annual Giving program. The Annual Giving Officer will work with the Executive Director, the Senior Director, and approved vendors to design, manage, and analyze an extensive direct mail, e-solicitation, newsletter, and stewardship program for the Abramson Cancer Center's annual unrestricted gift campaign.

Job Description
The Annual Giving Officer is directly responsible for all logistical components related to annual fund donor acquisition and retention and newsletter mailings for the Abramson Cancer Center. With supervision by the Executive Director and Senior Director, the Annual Giving Officer will plan and manage all aspects of the Annual Giving program, including establishing and reviewing broad objectives relative to annual giving, identifying issues and opportunities with the annual giving programs, analyzing results of solicitation efforts, and communicating Annual Giving priorities to leadership. The position will also conduct a minimum of 25 face-to-face leadership solicitations of annual fund donors and highly qualified prospects.

Responsibilities
Directly responsible for all logistical components related to annual fund donor acquisition and retention and newsletter mailings for the Abramson Cancer Center. With supervision of the Executive Director and the Senior Director, plan and manage all aspects of the Annual Giving program, including establishing and reviewing broad objectives relative to annual giving, identifying issues and opportunities with the annual giving programs, analyzing results of solicitation efforts, and communicating Annual Giving priorities to leadership.

Directly responsible for all creative components of the Annual Giving program including drafting and distribution of electronic and direct mail appeals and stewardship materials.

Responsible for the management of numerous databases used for direct mail, newsletters, special events, e-communications, and leadership giving.

Manage all vendor relationships in conjunction with Annual Giving programs.

Under supervision of and in conjunction with the Directors, directly solicit leadership-level Annual Giving prospects through in-person, direct, and digital mail, and through the coordination of cultivation events for donors who demonstrate capacity to make a leadership annual commitment to the ACC.

With the Directors, participate in development of overall Annual Giving strategy and plan for the Abramson Cancer Center; make recommendations and participate in determining policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and implementation of Annual Giving and other related programs.

In conjunction with the Directors, develop and implement new strategies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of direct mail, digital appeals, stewardship, and other programs.

Develop an understanding of the educational, research, and clinical operations at the Abramson Cancer Center and UPHS, and communicate its strategic initiatives in a compelling manner to both internal and external audiences.

Build strong working relationship with UPHS information systems administrators in order to facilitate effective management of donor records in ATLAS.

Supervise the gift processing staff for the accurate input of all donations and the preparation of all regularly scheduled fundraising reports; performs analysis of appeals and offers suggestions to the Directors for enhancing program performance.

Assist in the supervision, direction, and performance evaluation of the Annual Giving program's Administrative Assistant.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree required and 3-5 years experience in development or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; sound knowledge of annual giving programs and practices; ability to handle multiple projects with strong attention to detail; exceptional writing skills (preferably with demonstrated experience in annual fund writing); strong computer skills – MS Word, Excel and Access; analytic thinker; customer service focused individual with the ability to build working relationships internally, at Penn and UPHS, and externally with donors, vendors and consultants; outgoing personality interested in and capable of cultivating relationships with annual giving prospects and donors. Some travel required, availability some weeknights and weekends, and valid driver's license required.

Preferred: Experience with grateful patient fundraising.
