The New Dean of Students at Historically Black Hampton University

Aleczander M. Whitfield is the new dean of students at historically Black Hampton University in Virginia. For the past three years, he has served as assistant dean of judicial affairs and housing at Hampton.

Whitfield has had a 17-year career in higher education. He is a graduate of Hampton University and holds a master’s degree from the University of Detroit, Mercy. He plans to begin doctoral studies in the near future.

“I feel so excited and blessed,” Whitfield said. “I’m encouraged that my opinion and experience are valued, and I’m excited to be able to come in and support my colleagues and build on what has already been accomplished. When I realized that I wanted to pursue higher education as my career, I always envisioned the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and help develop and shape the program, so it’s mind-blowing that 17 years later, I’m here.”
