State University of New York Plattsburgh — Assistant Professor, Gender & Women’s Studies

About Our College: Situated in one of the world’s most beautiful regions – SUNY Plattsburgh’s main campus is on Lake Champlain between the Adirondack Mountains of New York and Green Mountains of Vermont. SUNY Plattsburgh is a vibrant, public, comprehensive college, and member of the State University of New York’s (SUNY) comprehensive system of higher education committed to student-centered academic excellence. While the college enrolls more than 5,500 students in 70+ baccalaureate, certificate, and master’s programs, an average class size of 22 students allows the individual attention necessary to ensure that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural and interdependent world.

About The Position: “How does gender, as it intersects with race, class, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, and nationality affect people’s lives?” For over 30 years, the gender and women’s studies program has been asking and answering this question, critiquing traditional disciplines for their lack of attention to gender and supplying needed research to fill in the gaps. The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2020. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, research and service in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education and teacher training.  It is expected that the person appointed to this role will demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues, as SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to ensuring that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and interdependent world. Therefore, we value faculty who can bring expertise in those areas.  The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format. The School of Arts & Sciences provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We develop students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively, and are broadly educated.

SUNY College at Plattsburgh is a fully compliant employer committed to excellence through diversity.
