A Pair of African American Women Named to Dean Posts at Major Universities

Mona Hicks was named dean of students at Stanford University in California. When she takes office in January, Dr. Hicks will also hold the title of associate vice provost. Dr. Hicks has been serving as associate vice president for student development and dean of students at Saint Louis University.

Dr. Hicks holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, a master’s degree in college student personnel from Western Illinois University, and a doctorate of education in higher education, leadership, and policy from Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Cora Thompson has been appointed interim dean for the College of Education at Savannah State University in Georgia. Within the College of Education, Dr. Thompson serves as field placement and partnership coordinator, post-baccalaureate program coordinator, middle grades program coordinator, and associate professor.

Dr. Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Savannah State University, a master’s degree in education from Troy University in Alabama and a doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
