Job Description:
The Senior Business Intelligence Developer position, reporting to the Manager of Business Intelligence Solutions in Information Technology Services, is responsible for providing support to UAlbany within the Reporting and Analytics service. This position specifically supports the continuously evolving UAlbany Business Intelligence (BI) system by capturing data requirements and employing technical and functional skills to build out a sustainable information analytics platform. This position will integrate institutional data into the UAlbany BI system that will inform decisions and support UAlbany’s strategic initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

Design, Develop, Implement and Maintain Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) Processes:

  • Document mappings between source systems and BI, including transformation logic
  • Use Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) to develop, implement, extract, transform and load logic to move data from the source to the BI System
  • Design, develop, perform and analyze test cases, including: unit tests, integration tests, and quality assurance plans
  • Work with users to identify issues and resolutions
  • Migrate ODI modules through multiple development environments and production
  • Design, develop, build and maintain ODI logic based on service requests and incidents
  • Monitor the success or failure of ODI Loads

Design, Develop, Implement and Maintain Dimensional Data Warehouse Enhancements:

  • Identify and document data requirements and sources
  • Design, develop and implement staging tables to hold the initial extracts of data from the system(s) of record
  • Design, develop and implement target tables that form Kimball’s star schema
  • Integrate additional Data Warehouse modules with the existing modules using tables identified as Conformed Dimensions

Design, Develop, Implement and Maintain the end user access to the BI:

  • Administer end user tools, such as Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) to organize the BI data for the end user, ensuring accessibility, ease of use and security
  • Learn new data access tools and how to administer them
  • Build validation dashboards/analytics to validate the data in the BI against the source systems
  • Work with the user to identify issues and their resolution

Work Service Requests, Incidents and Project Tasks:

  • Use a ticketing system and project task list to work through assigned activities
  • Work within assigned timelines, notifying the manager of any anomalies
  • Design and build validation dashboards/analytics to compare the data in the BI system against data in the source systems for integrity and correctness
  • Work with the user to identify issues and their resolution

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Minimum of 5 years of data requirements analysis, dimensional data modeling, data warehousing, data analytics, SQL, and ETL experience, providing services to a wide range of business customers
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with ODI or a similar ETL tool
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with Oracle SQL Developer or Toad
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with Oracle OBIEE or similar analytics tool
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; writing skills will be assessed by application materials submitted

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years’ experience in: 
    • ODI or a similar ETL tool
    • SQL Developer
    • OBIEE and Analytics/Dashboard development
  • Experience with data visualizations and story telling
  • Experience in higher education
