Oregon State University-Cascades — Dean of Academic Affairs

Oregon State University-Cascades seeks a visionary, strategic and collaborative leader to serve as the dean of academic affairs to develop and lead the academic program at their growing campus.

The dean of academic affairs, reporting to the vice president who is the executive of the campus, serves as a pivotal member of the leadership team of OSU-Cascades and will have a unique opportunity to lead the development of academic programs at an expanding and ambitious campus in one of the fastest-growing regions of the country. The dean will leverage the strengths of the student-centered, research-intensive main campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis with the assets of Central Oregon to develop compelling programs that attract students and educate highly sought after graduates. The dean will support and mentor faculty to be creative and impactful in their research and pedagogy. As a growing campus, the dean will have input into new facilities that provide state-of-the-art teaching and research infrastructure. The dean will accomplish these goals by building highly collaborative, consultative and productive relationships with academic leadership at the Corvallis campus as well as with educational, community and business leaders in the Bend and broader Central Oregon community, all of whom are invested in the success of the OSU-Cascades campus and its faculty and students.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon, is a campus of Oregon State University, Oregon’s land grant university. Established in 2001, OSU-Cascades currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015, opened its 10-acre campus in fall 2016, and the Oregon legislature approved additional funding in 2017 and 2018 for continued campus expansion, which is currently in progress. The campus has enrollment goals to reach 3,000 students by 2035 and is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.

Founded in 1868 and one of only two land, sea, space and sun grant public universities in the United States, Oregon State is an international research university that draws people from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. The university offers more than 200 undergraduate degree programs along with a variety of graduate and doctoral degrees. It is the largest university in the state with total enrollment exceeding 32,000 and has more majors, minors and special programs than any other university or college in Oregon. The Carnegie Foundation designates Oregon State University as a “Community Engagement” university and classifies it as a doctoral university with a status of “Highest research activity.” As members of the Pac-12 conference, OSU offers seven men’s and 10 women’s NCAA Division I sports.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished educator and scholar with an earned doctorate or other terminal degree who qualifies for appointment at the level of dean and tenured full professor at Oregon State University.  The successful candidate will have a strong record of significant administrative experience, including successfully mentoring and facilitating the development of tenure-track and fixed-term (instructor) faculty. This individual will understand issues that arise at branch campuses and be forward-thinking in developing collaborative and innovative solutions. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who can excel at developing relationships with colleagues on the Corvallis campus and in the greater Bend community and at facilitating faculty efforts to do the same.
