Middlesex Community College offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs in a broad range of liberal arts, occupational and career studies at the main campus in Middletown, satellite location in Meriden, and online. The Gear Up program (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded partnership between Middlesex Community College and Meriden Public Schools, which follows a large cohort of students beginning in 7th grade through their first year in College. The Program Coordinator manages all aspects of the GEAR UP program, including service delivery, staff supervision and evaluation, maintaining a positive relationship with Meriden Public Schools, budget, data management and reporting. This position reports to the Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and serves as the MxCC Liaison to the Statewide Director for the Gear Up program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates must have demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and abilities in program design and implementation; managing service delivery; training, development, evaluation and direction of staff; budget and fiscal management; and data analytics and reporting. Candidates must have proven experience in grant management and implementation, including policy and process development, grant reporting and budget management. Ability to work independently with a deep understanding of the College search and application process, including the financial aid process and the scholarship application process, as well as knowledge of college access programs, the K-12 education system and tutoring and mentoring programs. Candidates must be versed in the issues confronting underprepared and underrepresented middle and high school students as well as College students. Strong information technology literacy skills and oral communication skills with proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders. Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience recruiting, training and mentoring staff.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in an academic field; minimum of five (5) years’ experience managing programs designed to empower underrepresented students in high school and/or higher education; minimum of three (3) years’ of supervisory experience managing a diverse team; and an understanding of the issues facing Gear Up CT students.
Preferred Experience: Experience providing professional development to staff; experience managing grant funded projects; experience with local, state or federal college access programs; demonstrated understanding of curriculum design, college access pedagogy, and issues surrounding poverty. Spanish language fluency.

Conditions: Candidates must possess valid driver’s license as in state travel to satellite locations and other CSCU system events will be required; ability to work flexible schedule to include evenings and occasional weekends. This is a seven year, grant funded position with an expected end date of September 30, 2026.
