Coastal Carolina University — Assistant / Associate Professor for Instructional Technology

The Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the full-time tenure-track position in Instructional Technology beginning August 2020. This position is a nine month appointment, with the possibility of summer teaching.

The Spadoni College of Education is an NCATE accredited institution. More than 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students are currently majoring in education programs at Coastal Carolina University. The Spadoni College of Education offers undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, middle level education, physical education, and special education. Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Teaching – Secondary Education degree with concentrations in English, social studies, mathematics, and science; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Educational Leadership; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Instructional Technology, Master of Education in Special Education, Master of Education in Language, Literacy, and Culture, and an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education.

Successful candidates will be expected to be an outstanding teacher-scholar with experience teaching pre-service and in-service educators to improve professional practice utilizing innovative technologies, to include, but not limited to educational robotics, coding, mobile app development, graphic design, multimedia production, content interaction, learning analytics, assistive tools, and live event streaming. The ideal candidate is a generalist with comprehensive technical skills as well as significant knowledge and experience applying historical and contemporary models of instructional design in education and training settings. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in traditional, hybrid, and online learning formats, advising students, maintaining an active research agenda, and engaging in relevant service to the college, university, and local schools. A key focus of the program is to expand the undergraduate instructional technology curricula, with emphasis on the development of new core courses as well as new minor, major, and certificate programs that meet emerging job trends and establish continuity with our successful graduate programs. The ideal candidate should have prior success obtaining external funding for instructional technology research initiatives. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with the program coordinator and other program faculty to: actively participate in established and new program curriculum and assessments development, implementation, and analysis; provide advisement and mentorship to students; participate in program, departmental, college, and university governance; represent the program with external constituencies; provide assistance with the recruitment and retention of students; and engage in relevant professional activities and scholarship.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D./Ed.D. degree in Instructional/Educational Technology or related field (ABD Candidates will be considered);
  • Experience teaching at the P-12 school level;
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing instructional technology courses for preservice and in-service educators
  • Demonstrates the potential for excellence in teaching at the university level, specifically graduate level;
  • Experience with online instruction (synchronous and asynchronous methodologies);
  • Successful acquisition of external funding for instructional technology scholarly initiatives
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity; and
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with university, technical school, and public school colleagues and build partnerships within a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching courses in at the graduate level (including hybrid and online courses);
  • Experience with program evaluation;
  • Experience in advising graduate level students;
  • Experience teaching adult learners;
  • Experience training pre-service and in-service teachers educational robotics, coding, mobile app development, graphic design, multimedia production, content interaction, learning analytics, assistive tools, and live event streaming;
  • Experience producing livestreamed instructional events; and/or
  • Experience teaching assistive technologies.
