DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Washington State University Vancouver invites applications for a tenure-track position in the College of Education. Successful candidates will have expertise and a scholarly agenda concerning issues of instruction, curriculum, or assessment as related to teacher preparation. The successful candidate would be expected to carry a 40% teaching load, a 40% research load, and a 20% service load within the academic year. WSU Vancouver is part of the multi-campus Washington State University system. All campuses share a common accreditation and share the R1 Carnegie Classification. Colleges and Departments may have faculty located across multiple campuses. 

CONTEXT:
WSU Vancouver is an inclusive, innovative, non-residential research university dedicated to offering premier undergraduate and graduate educational and research experiences. Situated on 351 scenic acres, WSU Vancouver is in the homeland of the Chinookan and Taidnapam peoples and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe. WSU Vancouver is located in Vancouver, Washington in the southwest region of Washington state. A part of the Portland, Oregon metro area, Vancouver offers a wealth of social justice, cultural and recreational interests including identity-specific community events, visual and performing arts, professional sports teams, farmers’ markets and nature trails. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Make a significant contribution to scholarship in the field of teacher education through maintaining active research and seeking external funding. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Bachelors and Masters in Teaching programs on topics in one or more of the following areas: instruction, curriculum, or assessment. Other responsibilities include advising students and chairing master’s committees; providing service to the university and to the profession at the local, state, and national levels; developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with colleagues within and across campuses, establishing connections with local school and district leaders throughout the region; demonstrating a commitment to diversity and social justice. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in teacher education or related field by the hire date and demonstrated experience in K-12 educational settings. Evidence of scholarly activity appropriate to rank. Candidates at the Associate level must have an established record of research, teaching, and service to meet WSU requirements for tenure. Candidates at the Assistant level must have evidence of scholarly activity and a clear research agenda situated in teacher education. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated experience with people from diverse backgrounds, particularly historically and currently marginalized student groups (e.g. students of color, emergent bilingual students, students living in poverty, immigrant/refugee students, students with disabilities, LGBTQ students, among others). 
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in K-12 public schools. 
  • Experience teaching in university teacher preparation programs. 
  • A research agenda that demonstrates a deep interest in how teachers learn and/or innovative practices in teacher preparation. 
  • Evidence of acquiring or seeking external funding. 
  • Record of (or potential for) establishing university-community partnerships.
