Job Summary

Reporting to the Financial Program Supervisor, this is a professional level position with the primary role to provide accounting services and assist with the budgeting and financial functions for departments as assigned within the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Enrollment Management. This includes 27 major departments with an annual budget of over $98 million dollars (excluding Aid) and funding appropriations from GPR (101, 402), User Fees (136), Program Revenue (128 & 131), Gift (133), Aid (145, 146, 147, 148, 149, 151, 151, 406), and Federal (144) which includes 544 FTE of permanent staff and $169 Million in student financial aid. This position performs tasks under general direction requiring considerable initiative, judgment, responsibility and specialized knowledge of university and UWM administrative policies and procedures, budget processes, purchasing/procurement procedures, payroll transactions, etc. Accurate fiscal analysis and reporting is crucial as the consequence of the errors will impact the Divisions.

This position requires a significant degree of independence and latitude in decision-making. The person in this position is expected to demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective relationships with managers, supervisors, and all co-workers. The person must also use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the office and division.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants for this position must have:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field; and
  2. At least one (1) year of accounting or finance related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates will also have:

  1. An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license;
  2. Experience in a higher education, government, and/or non-profit environment;
  3. Experience working with financial reporting systems and software such as MS Excel, PeopleSoft, Hyperion or other similar systems;
  4. Experience in financial analysis and reporting; and
  5. Experience with transactional accounting.
