THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego ( ) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for an Excellence search, for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Physical Chemistry, broadly defined. Areas of strong interest include theoretical/computational, materials, atmospheric, biophysical as well as novel instrumentation. Candidates must have a strong record of research accomplishment, an innovative research plan, and a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching. All positions are subject to availability of funding.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field by the time of appointment and demonstrated potential for a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. A successful candidate must have a well-articulated plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. In particular, the candidate will have participated in, contributed to, or created such programs, and can articulate how this experience helped shape their plan. Candidates should present any previous experience having served as a role model in mentoring others. Teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in general, physical, analytical, or environmental chemistry are expected depending on candidate's background and specialization. Ideally, the candidate will have demonstrated skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Candidates must receive their Ph.D. before July 1, 2020. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scale. Review of applications will commence on November 1, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.
