University of Arkansas School of Art — Endowed Professor of Graphic Design

The School of Art, in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for an endowed, tenure-track assistant professor in graphic design to start in August 2020. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. We seek a candidate with a strong and developing national reputation, achieved through a compelling research record; one who demonstrates curiosity in emerging technologies, speculative design methods and novel approaches to traditional methods.

The newly established School of Art aims to create a nationally recognized model for faculty research, teaching, and service. Endowed professors are expected to develop innovative, collaborative, and interdisciplinary initiatives both inside and outside the university that support the university’s mission as a flagship, land-grant institution.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design focuses on human-centered design research, designing for complexity and forward-looking speculative methods. We seek to prepare students to be proficient makers and thoughtful problem seekers and solvers by speculating the ways that design can impact and facilitate positive change. In addition to the BFA degree, a new master’s degree in design is currently in the planning stages.

The School of Art is committed to enhancing educational and professional diversity by seeking to integrate individuals from varied backgrounds and characteristics, including members of historically underrepresented groups. The University of Arkansas believes that enhancing diversity and providing an educational and work environment in which thought, creativity, and growth are stimulated is critical to its mission of helping individuals to realize their full potential.
