Description of Responsibilities:
The Director of the Syracuse Campus is an essential administrative leader for SUNY Oswego’s branch campus located in downtown Syracuse, NY. The Director  leads and manages all activities at the Syracuse branch campus, including overseeing credit bearing course logistics, room rentals and meeting scheduling and overall site management. The Director supervises Syracuse branch campus based professional staff, student workers, graduate assistants and interns, ensuring a supportive, professional work environment. This position fosters a full educational ecosystem of undergraduate completion programs, graduate programs / certificates, student services and engagement opportunities at the branch campus and works with colleagues, faculty and campus leadership to advocate for strategically important practices, policies and course offerings that best serve branch campus audiences.  Additionally, the Director cultivates partnerships with employers and other key groups in the region to gauge credit and non-credit based needs and promotes enrollment of nontraditional working adult student population. Administration of the site includes managing a budget, facilitating logistical requirements and generating reports that measure and assess efficacy of site operations.

The Director will assist with communicating information about SUNY Oswego’s Syracuse branch campus courses and programs, engage in college initiatives and represent the branch campus in Syracuse as well as in Oswego at the main campus in order to refine existing offerings, propose innovations and foster new programs. The Director will remain current with the field of higher education, particularly branch campus administration, and implement best practices in order to meet professional obligations, including service to campus committees and membership in work-related local, regional, and national organizations.

The Syracuse campus seeks to engage a wide array of diverse populations that include adult career changers and those with socio-economic, cultural and racially diverse backgrounds. As such, the Director will create an inclusive atmosphere and will engage underserved populations, providing them access to higher education at the branch campus.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership, Public / Non Profit Administration, Business Administration, Strategic Communication, or related field
  • Five years of related work experience in a management role in higher education, public education or corporate training or related area
  • Experience supervising staff and managing budgets
  • Knowledge of the principles of and demonstrated commitment to adult and lifelong learning 
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion of underserved populations
  • Extensive experience in reporting and assessment
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing multiple projects and working with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated written, oral & interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to travel and work evening and weekends as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seven years’ experience of related work experience in a management role in higher education
  • Demonstrated collegiate level teaching, professional training, or staff development experience
  • Prior experience administering a branch campus or extension site
  • Demonstrated work in diversity and inclusion issues, reflective of the Syracuse area, through professional or community service
  • Experience managing facility operations
  • Customer service and event management skills
  • Previous experience teaching or learning via online courses, hybrid courses or blended programs
  • Demonstrated experience actively troubleshooting challenges at all levels
  • Success in cultivating a positive team-oriented environment

Description of Department:
The mission of the Division of Extended Learning is to expand access to the SUNY Oswego experience through the creation, delivery and support of innovative and responsive credit and non-credit programming for diverse audiences via multiple locations, modalities and services. We cultivate collaborative partnerships and provide superior customer service to ensure high quality, lifelong learning opportunities. The office coordinates offering of a variety of credit bearing and non-credit bearing courses and programs for both nontraditional and traditional students at the Syracuse Branch Campus, Online, during Summer and Winter terms and at offsite locations. The Extended Learning Division is the home to the SUNY Oswego in the High Schools and Oswego County New Visions programs where eligible high school students are able to concurrently enroll in SUNY Oswego courses for college credit. Extended Learning also coordinates the offering of both a year round and our long running Summer Intensive English program for students from around the world and English for Academic Purposes courses during traditional semesters. Professional development programs are available by contract, on site, or online. The Division is proud to have received numerous Veteran Friendly designations and provides services to active duty military and veterans online and face to face as a partner at the Jefferson Higher Education Center in Watertown, on Fort Drum and on main campus. We also provide services such as Testing and Proctoring, International Student Services, Non-Traditional Student Services and Room Rental at our Syracuse branch campus.
