Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions reports directly to the Dean of Graduate Studies and provides leadership over the administrative and operational processes associated with recruitment, admissions, and enrollment for SUNY Oswego graduate programs and certificates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of prospective students, recruiting events, applicant experience and communication, support for program-based student selection processes, acquisition of post-selection information and surveys, and transfer of information into the student record to support accepted student matriculations.
  • Responsible for maintaining and maximizing the use of admissions software (Technolutions Slate) for all graduate recruitment, admissions, and enrollment processes; train program coordinators on software as needed; trouble-shoot challenges experienced by program coordinators, students, or administrative support staff and manage reporting functions during all phases of the admissions process.
  • Manage the workflow for application fees and fee waivers and collaborate with corresponding offices/business units.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Division of Graduate Studies and other SUNY Oswego administrative offices as they relate to enrollment management, Slate, and relevant academic operations.
  • Compile and report on graduate admissions and academic metrics that help decision-making around recruitment and enrollment issues, including but not limited to, student demographics and the overall success of Graduate Studies recruitment efforts.
  • Maintain the graduate admissions website and ensure accuracy and consistency with web and marketing content.
  • Collaborate with Division of Graduate Studies staff on the graduate student experience, access to scholarships, fellowships, assistantships, and develop appropriate communication plans for long-term and short term initiatives.
  • Serve as an advocate for inclusive admissions practices and contribute to efforts that will enhance the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities’ engagement with graduate education.
  • Supervise admissions secretary, set priorities and goals, provide formal and informal feedback; coach, train, and mentor.
  • Be available to work evenings and/or weekends as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree by time of appointment
  • 1 year of work experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information consistent with federal and state educational laws
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in college/university admissions/graduate admissions or closely related area
  • Experience with admissions software systems (Technolutions Slate, preferred)
  • Experience providing technical or organizational development assistance
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to issues in higher education
  • Experience in professional development and/or community activities that reflects commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion issues. 
  • Experience working with website and marketing material design
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize work tasks
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with proficiency in software systems that include Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working positively and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
