Description of Responsibilities: 

The Assistant Professor of Career & Technical Education will:

  • Teach both online and live undergraduate, graduate and certificate career & technical education courses (at SUNY Oswego and/or Syracuse campuses).
  • Commit to research and university service including student advisement.
  • Manage and coordinate the department’s Occupational Competency Examination (OCE) program.(The OCE program consists of written and performance examinations for the recognition of prior learning (RPL) and the award of college credits to candidates who have acquired specialized competencies while working for four or more years in a given occupation. )
  • Engage in educational opportunities and work to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Completed Ph.D./Ed.D in Career & Technical Education or related field from an accredited institution. ABDs with degree completion by May 2021 will be considered.
  • Career & Technical Education teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated interest or engagement with social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion issues, through professional or community experience. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to and use new technologies and software.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Occupational work experience in the trade or technical education, family and consumer science, or health science fields.  
  • Peer-reviewed journal publications.
  • Experience promoting all students’ ability to succeed in a multicultural and global community by employing practices, pedagogy, and curricula that promote social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Description of Department: The Department of Career and Technical Educator Preparation, a division of the School of Education, provides teacher/trainer education programs to prepare individuals to teach their occupational specialty in schools, colleges, industry and other settings where vocational/career and technical education is delivered. Common settings include comprehensive high schools, BOCES’ career centers, correctional facilities, community colleges, and training centers in the industry. The department offers certificate, bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs leading to both initial and professional teacher certification. The following majors are offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level: Agriculture, Business and Marketing, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Careers, Technical, and Trade Education. Students completing a program will be prepared to teach their occupational specialty in the secondary, post-secondary or an industry setting.
