Coastal Carolina University — Associate Dean of Education

Coastal Carolina University invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean of the Spadoni College of Education. The Associate Dean supports the Dean in carrying out the mission and goals of the Spadoni College of Education and assists students and faculty concerning university and college academic policies and procedures. This position is a full-time (12 month) tenure-track position that will begin June 1, 2020, or possibly a January 2020 start date if compatible with a successful candidate’s schedule.

The Spadoni College of Education is an NCATE accredited institution. More than 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students are currently majoring in education programs at Coastal Carolina University. The Spadoni College of Education offers undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, middle level education, physical education, and special education. Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Teaching – Secondary Education degree with concentrations in English, social studies, mathematics, and science; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Educational Leadership; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Instructional Technology, Master of Education in Special Education, Master of Education in Language, Literacy, and Culture, and an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education.

The Associate Dean position primarily assists the dean with a variety of the day to day operations of the college. This may include but not limited to: college/university policy development and implementation; academic program retention/recruitment initiatives; long-range academic planning and scheduling; provide leadership for the unit assessment system of the College, and oversee the development and maintenance of College databases, assessment plans, and performance assessments; monitor and ensure compliance with accreditation standards and the maintenance of documentation necessary for preparing institutional reports; provide leadership for the preparation of CAEP/State Team accreditation reports and coordinate accreditation visits; assist the dean, as needed, with responses to inquiries, reports, and administrative matters related to academic affairs; serve on college, department, and university committees; represent the college at appropriate university events, councils, etc.; represent college to schools and agencies involved in special projects; facilitate student scholarships; process and monitor graduation paperwork; and other projects and special duties as assigned by the Dean. Required Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctorate in an academic discipline within the Spadoni College of Education;
  • Achieved rank as Associate or Full Professor;
  • A notable record of scholarship, teaching and service in higher education;
  • Experience serving as a department chair or related administration position in a college of education;
  • A clear understanding of CAEP accreditation standards and requirements;
  • Experience in developing and implementing program assessment plans and writing program evaluation reports;
  • Knowledge and experience in PK-12 educator preparation programs and partnerships;
  • Proven track record in providing vision and leadership to academic programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a leadership team and ability to facilitate collaborative decision-making;
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity:
  • Demonstrates potential to collaboratively work with multiple stakeholders and build meaningful partnerships;
  • Evidence of clear interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external constituencies; and
  • Documentation of exceptional leadership, vision, administrative and personnel management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and maintaining a longitudinal database system for developing and evaluating program effectiveness;
  • Demonstrated success related to the alignment of teacher effectiveness criteria to PK-12 student achievement;
  • Previous experience in facilitating accreditation of educator preparation programs;
  • Knowledge and experience in teaching graduate courses and/or administering graduate education degree programs;
  • Demonstrated evidence of promoting a positive organizational culture;
  • Documented examples of dependability and fidelity within administrative organizational structures; and/or
  • Demonstrated ability to secure state and federal grants.
