Department Summary:
The mission of the Department of Secondary Education and Professional Programs at Bridgewater State University is to prepare educators and related professionals to teach, lead, and serve in a diverse and evolving global society.

Essential Duties:
The Department of Secondary Education and Professional Programs (SEPP) invites applications for a full time, tenure track position. Duties include teaching, clinical supervision of student teachers, service, academic advising, and research. Teaching consists of core courses in our undergraduate teacher licensure program. Courses include but are not limited to: Introduction to Secondary Teaching; Learning and Motivation; Assessment and Planning; Sheltered English Immersion; Teaching Literacy in Content Area; and Strategies for Teaching Middle/High School content area(s). Teaching may also include courses in our graduate Educational Leadership and teacher licensure programs.

The successful candidate will collaborate with department faculty and engage with College of Education colleagues and other internal and external partners at the University. Responsibilities include assessment, refinement, and expansion of existing programs; and advising undergraduate and pre-service and graduate students as assigned. Additional responsibilities include service on University, College, and department committees and task forces; assuming departmental leadership responsibilities in areas of new program initiatives, program assessment teams, curriculum development and implementation, and related state Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and accreditation requirements (NCATE/CAEP, NECHE ); and pursuit of an active agenda of research and scholarship.

Required Qualifications:
• Earned PhD or Ed.D. in Education from an accredited university (ABD candidates will be considered) with documented coursework highly relevant to middle and high school teacher education.

• Experience teaching courses in teacher education at the college/university undergraduate level.

• Minimum 5 years public middle and/or high school teaching experience.

• Evidence of scholarly activity and contribution to the content of the discipline.

• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, and to working with a highly diverse student population.

• Ability to teach in the department’s graduate programs

• Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, including online teaching.

• Commitment to and skills in working collaboratively with members of the department colleagues and members of the larger university community.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Content knowledge and teaching experience highly relevant to middle/high school social studies and history teacher education.
• Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated experience in CAEP (NCATE) NECHE, MA state education and/or other accreditation, standards and assessment.
• Experience supervising practicum students.
• Demonstrated professional knowledge/experience in adolescent & educational psychology helpful.
