The Department of Art and Design within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Art and Design to teach 3D courses in traditional and digital capacities to begin August 2020.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially based private institution of 9,200 undergraduate and graduate students. The position requires the ability to teach widely across the field of 3D studio art and design. The department is seeking applicants with an interdisciplinary mindset, who display expertise in both traditional and digital art methods as they pertain to the theory and practice of contemporary art. Special consideration will be given to applicants that have experience with digital fabrication, industrial design, or furniture design, with the ability to utilize laser engravers/cutters, plasma cutter, CNC machines and 3D printers within the scope of teaching. This commitment to combining technologies old and new is extremely important to the future vision of the department’s goals and growth.

Teaching load is 12-semester hours (3 four-credit classes) in a 15-week semester. Teaching assignments will include both lower and upper-division courses in 3D and interdisciplinary art and design. Faculty members are expected to engage in service activities at all levels of the university and provide academic and professional advice to students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a dynamic studio practice and a record of professional accomplishments commensurate with a depth of experience in the field. Candidates should be versed in a wide range of traditional and digital practices, in interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as critical issues/discourse impacting contemporary art and culture.

The successful candidate will join a department of nine full-time faculty members committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a strong research culture where traditional and emerging art and design processes and technologies are used across the disciplines in a diverse and collaborative environment. Faculty in Art and Design are committed to engaging collaboratively with colleagues within the department as well as across disciplines. The successful applicant will demonstrate historical knowledge and contemporary skills in art and design.

Required Qualifications
Must have an MFA or other terminal degree in 3D, sculpture, or interdisciplinary art, and an active record in the profession. The successful candidate will have experience in digital fabrication using laser cutters, CNC machines, and 3D printers and related software design. The candidate must demonstrate scholarly and professional activities that make a significant contribution and reflect a high standard of excellence in teaching, research, and pedagogy. The successful candidate is required to maintain office hours, advise students, provide service to the college, university, community, and the profession, and perform all other duties as assigned.
