The Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Sociocultural Anthropology. The appointment will begin July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

We seek a scholar with strengths in social and anthropological theory with an ongoing ethnographic research program. We are specifically looking for candidates engaged in innovative work in the area(s) of energy and/or environmental humanities. Topics may include, but are not limited to, environmental justice, energy/climate governance, health and toxicity, and multi-species ethnography. Geographic area is open. The successful candidate will complement existing faculty strengths in UTM Anthropology and in the tri-campus Anthropology Graduate Program (

Applicants must have a PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals as appropriate for stage of career, equivalent peer-reviewed venues, and/or presentations at significant disciplinary conferences; grants or awards as appropriate for stage of career; and strong endorsements by referees of international stature. Evidence for excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments; strong letters of reference; teaching evaluations; and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application.
