Florida State University — Assistant Professor in Black Geographies

The Department of Geography invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Black geographies with a focus on the African American experience to begin August 2020. Scholars who work outside the U.S. (e.g. the Latin American, Afro-Carribean, and other diasporic contexts) and are making strong theoretical and empirical connections with the African-American experience, are also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant is expected to pursue research, secure external funding, and teach courses for two academic programs, Geography and African American Studies. Teaching will include at least one course in the African American Studies core curriculum, a second course at the nexus of race and geography, and other courses in the geography curriculum. The tenure home will be in the Department of Geography. Specific research specialization is open, and can include: Black historical, cultural, political, economic, feminist, or queer geographies, as well as the racialization of space, housing, busing, policing and incarceration, environmental justice, health geographies, urban community development, and/or geographies of racial justice.
