Overview
The Department of Physics at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to begin August 2020. The Department offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics, with current emphases in astronomy and applied physics. The Department is currently in the early planning stages for an interdisciplinary M.S. degree in Material Science. We welcome applications in all areas of research in physics. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach computational physics and help build computation into all levels of the departmental curriculum as well as teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate courses. Our faculty are actively involved in research and in professional organizations in their respective fields. California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students, and graduates about 5,000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire, and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. CSUSB employs 467 full-time faculty and offers 48 undergraduate, 35 graduate, and 1 doctoral degree programs and 14 academic programs with national accreditation. Typical Activities
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Physics, maintain a robust and ongoing research agenda, and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates will be expected to maintain an active research program appropriate for an undergraduate institution that affords research opportunities for students. The candidate will also advise students and perform career-related service roles on and off campus for the department, college, university and professional societies. Furthermore, the candidate will also lead activities that will advance scholarly excellence in Physics.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Physics or an equivalent degree in a closely related area by time of appointment. However, candidates with “all but dissertation” (ABD) are considered. We welcome applications from all areas of research in Physics. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach computational physics and help build computation into all levels of the departmental curriculum as well as teach a broad spectrum of undegraduate courses.
Preferred candidates are expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the University and community.
