Department Summary:
Bridgewater State University’s Department of Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position to begin Fall 2020. A growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary department with a strong focus on social justice in both theory and practice seeks faculty committed to excellence in teaching, mentoring of students, and research. The department strives to advance the success of all students, community partnerships and social justice.

Essential Duties:
Bridgewater State University has a 4-4 teaching responsibility (most often implemented with a three-course preparation) supported with significant professional development opportunities and guidance. This position seeks an exceptional candidate whose area of specialization is victim studies. The successful candidate will also be asked to teach a variety of criminal justice courses, including but not limited to, restorative justice, ethics, and/or corrections and reentry.

The successful candidate will be required to mentor undergraduate and graduate students as well as maintain an active service and scholarship agenda. Opportunities exist for innovation including developing service-learning projects, study abroad courses, and research projects with university support.

We also encourage applications from candidates who are interested in collaboration with Bridgewater State University’s many thriving centers and programs such as the prelaw program, the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice, and the Center for Multicultural Affairs. We place a high value on community partnerships, service-learning, faculty research projects, and student research.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered.

A law degree, alone, does not meet the requirement for the appropriate terminal degree for this position.

They should also have a commitment to public higher education, an ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, a commitment to collaboration, and evidence of scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience in higher education, including with hybrid and online teaching formats, is preferred.
