A Trio of African American Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions

Anthony A. Pittman has been named professor and dean of the School of Education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He most recently served as acting dean of the College of Education at Kean University in Union, New Jersey.

Dr. Pittman is a graduate of South Carolina State University where he majored in English education. He holds a master’s degree in education with a specialization in curriculum and instruction from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Connecticut.

Dominique Ayesha Robinson has been named dean of the Chapel at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. She has previously worked as a contributing editor to Harvest magazine, a national web-based Christian publication. She has also held leadership roles for the Academy of Preachers, a national organization that advocates and equips young preachers. She is the author of Unspoken Praise: A Manual of Liturgical-Praise Dance (2011).

Dr. Robinson holds a bachelor’s degree in government and psychology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., a master of divinity degree and a master of theology both from Emory University in Atlanta, and a doctor of ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary. She will begin studying for a Ph.D. in African American preaching and sacred rhetoric at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis in January 2020.

Damien Clement has been named acting dean of the Honors College at West Virginia University. He is currently an associate professor in the university’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, where he has been a faculty member since 2008.

Dr. Clement is a graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he majored in sports medicine/athletic training. He holds a master’s degree in community counseling and a Ph.D. in sport and exercise psychology both from West Virginia University.
