A Quartet of African Americans Appointed to Positions as Deans

LaTonya Branham has been named dean of academic services and university registrar at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She has been a member of the university’s faculty since January 2018 and currently serves as an assistant professor of university studies.

Dr. Branham is a graduate of Wilberforce University in Ohio where she majored in organizational management. She holds a master’s degree in management from Antioch University Midwest, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in leadership and change from Antioch University.

Suzanne Barbour has been named a professor of biochemistry and dean of the Graduate School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She currently served as dean of the Graduate School at the University of Georgia.

Dr. Barbour is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Jersey, where she majored in chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Orlando F. McMeans has been named chancellor-dean of the Agricultural Research and Extension Center and the College of Agricultural, Family, and Consumer Sciences at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He has been serving as vice president for research and public service at West Virginia State University. He also served as the executive director of the WVSU Research and Development Corporation, the dean and director of the WVSU Gus R. Douglas Land-Grant Institute, and as a full tenured research professor of biology.

Dr. McMeans is a graduate of Alabama A&M University where he majored in horticulture. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in horticulture from the University of Illinois.

Nicholas J. Hill has been named professor and dean of the School of Business at Claflin University. He was interim chair of the department of business administration and director of doctoral program at Jackson State University.

Dr. Hill is a graduate of Tougaloo College where he majored in economics. He holds a master’s degree in urban economics from Howard University and a Ph.D. in business administration from Jackson State University.
