Veronica Adams Yon Elected President of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society

Veronica Adama Yon has been elected the next national president of the Alpha Kappa Mu (AKM) Honor Society, Inc. The 93,000-member organization celebrates the achievement of juniors, seniors, and graduate students in all disciplines. Dr. Yon’s four-year term as president will begin on August 1, 2019.

Dr. Yon currently serves as an associate professor of English at Florida A&M University. She has held a number of leadership roles at the university throughout her career including coordinator of the college preparatory English program, director of the composition studies program, interim chair of the English department, and founding director of the university’s Writing Resource Center.

Dr. Yon was named FAMU “Teacher of the Year” in 2009 and AKM director of public relations in 2013. She recently received the 2019 Outstanding Advisor Award from AKM.

“I am extremely honored to have been selected to lead Alpha Kappa Mu through its next era of promoting and recognizing academic excellence,” said Dr. Yon.

Dr. Yon holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from Florida State University.
