University of Tennessee at Martin — Coordinator of Aquatics and Leisure Recreation

The Coordinator of Aquatics and Leisure Recreation directs a comprehensive program of instructional services and activities in aquatics, risk management and leisure recreation. The coordinator reports to the Director of Campus Recreation and serves as a key team member whose contributions assist in the achievement of organizational goals. This position is responsible for the planning, organization, and administration of the Aquatic and Leisure Recreation Program, which includes recruiting, supervising, training, scheduling, disciplining, and evaluating approximately 60 students. This position oversees, provides, and teaches a variety of American Red Cross safety classes for the program and surrounding community. Classes include Lifeguarding, Basic CPR/First Aid/AED, and swim lessons.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the area of recreation, physical education, sports management, exercise science, or related field.
  • Minimum two years of work experience in aquatics management.
  • Current Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and AED American Red Cross certifications.
  • Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage change and direct student employees.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, organize, and plan effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with the capacity to promptly learn new computer software programs relevant to the proper management of the department.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, and negotiation skills in a complex environment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people and the skills to deal with the public in a prompt, professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work nights and some weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to foster a positive, cooperative work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lifeguard Instructor certification
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification
  • Water Safety Instructor certification
  • Certified Pool Operator
