Job Description:
The Office of Student Development is seeking applicants for an Associate Director of Student Success.

The Associate Director is primarily responsible for the success coaching of planning, implementation and evaluation of University orientation programs and processes, including the management of the orientation team as part of Wittenberg’s integrated student success approach.   This includes Orientation, Welcome Week, and pre-enrollment programs.  Additionally, the associate director is responsible for academic and psycho-social coaching and intervention for students to aid in their persistence as well as assisting in the management of critical university intervention processes (early alert response, grade reports, registration support, and more).  The associate director serves as a member of the COMPASS: Sweet Success Center team.  This position reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Success.

The Student Development staff is dedicated to student growth and development outside of the classroom and considers Student Involvement as an integral part of this learning experience.  In supporting the learning environment, the Associate Director of Student Success should have an understanding of the value of student transition programs and student success programs. The Associate Director will serve as a role model, a facilitator, a leader, and an essential person in the effective operation of the student development program including collaboration across the curriculum.  Strategic decision making, ability to multi-task, and experience with administrative processes are essential to the success of the position.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide psychosocial, academic, professional, and life skills support to a designated student case-load identified through several referral and intervention processes.
  • Coordinate and manage incoming student orientation programs (Orientation and New Student Days/Welcome Week) on-boarding processes, communication, outcomes, and pre-enrollment initiatives in conjunction with campus stakeholders.  Manage the selection, training, and leadership of the Orientation Team program.
  • Assist students with their college and life transitions to ensure academic success.
  • Provide structured academic and social workshops and activities aimed at improving the academic performance and retention of first- and second-year students through the academic year.
  • Create and implement programs and initiatives to aid students with undeclared majors to discern their sense of vocation and academic pathway.
  • Aid in the management and intervention of critical University processes including: mid-term grade reports, early alerts, registration, account holds, part-time status, athletic eligibility, and undeclared majors.
  • Participate in the creation, assessment and analysis of programming and initiatives for student success.
  • Maintain student data and records in a manner that ensures confidentiality and aides in the assessment of retention programs and strategies.
  • Collaborate with the campus community, including, faculty, staff, and college partners on students’ success.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Development team, including meetings, retreats and trainings, and assisting with other major programs and events.
  • Serve in the Student Development on-call rotation assisting with emergencies and critical incidents. (Requires that the associate director live within 30 minutes of campus).
  • Participate in appropriate staff development opportunities; serve on campus, community, and professional association committees; appropriately keep supervisor abreast of matters sensitive in nature.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
A master’s degree in a related field and at least one to three years of relevant experience is required.  Candidates should be committed to student success and have a commitment to and an understanding of a liberal arts education and inclusion at a church-related college.   Some nights and weekend work is required.
