In Memoriam: Walter Robinson, 1953-2019

Walter Robinson, the former associate vice chancellor of enrollment management at the University of California, Davis, died at his home in Vallejo, California, from heart failure on June 9. He was 66 years old.

Robinson retired from his post at the university in September 2018. He had joined the staff in 2011 as executive director of undergraduate admissions. Ralph J. Hexter, provost at the university stated that Robinson “was an enthusiastic cheerleader for bringing more underrepresented minorities to UC Davis, and assisting them every step of the way.”

Robinson, a graduate of California State University, Fresno, began his career at his alma mater in 1980 as an educational opportunity program counselor. In 1994, he took a position at the University of Florida, staying on the staff there for 11  years, rising to the post as associate director of admissions and school relations. In 2005, Robinson was appointed assistant vice chancellor and director of undergraduate admissions at the University of California, Berkeley.
