University of Maryland, College Park — Associate Director of the Adele H. Stamp Union for Leadership, Engagement, Advocacy, and Diversity (LEAD)

Reporting to the director of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union – Center for Campus Life and serving as a member of Stamp’s leadership team, this position oversees all programmatic aspects of the department, including direct supervision of four assistant directors and indirect supervision of four teams of coordinators, administrative staff, and graduate assistants totaling the equivalent of 38 full-time staff. Working with staff, initiates and oversees programming that promotes student-centered involvement, leadership, and identity development. Provides education and training consultations to campus and community constituents. Advocates for student engagement in all areas of the campus and the broader community. Creates strategic goals and metrics to support the measurement of success, capacity building, and learning for students and staff members. Engages staff in rich exchanges and collaborative work. Is a critical thinker and researcher with interest in using data and feedback to inform our practice and partnerships with other agencies on campus. Directs and participates in fundraising efforts, grant writing, and sponsorships for the LEAD areas in conjunction with the director of Stamp and Stamp’s development staff. Leads, manages, and directs the fiscal accountability of $5.2 million, split between an operating budget of $2.6 million and a student activity, fee-funded budget of $2.6 million. Serves as one of the senior leaders of Stamp with shared responsibility for the management of departmental resources and goals.

Master’s degree within student affairs, counseling, higher education, or related field of study required. Terminal or advanced degree preferred. Ideal candidate is a progressive leader, both creative & strategic, a strong manager, and a critical thinker. Should be committed to students and student engagement, act as a transformative and empowering leader for campus-wide and community-based civic engagement, and be able to work at the intersection of academic and co-curricular life. Strong background in student development, leadership, identity development, or diversity theories with the ability to translate theory to practice. At least eight to 10 years of full-time experience in higher education.
