Miami University — Communication Specialist

University Libraries:  Communication Specialist is responsible for management of Miami University Libraries day-to-day communications-side website upkeep, support of social media accounts, and liaising with the libraries staff to promote libraries’ events, resources and initiatives primarily to students and campus audiences through effective storytelling. This position is part of the strategic communications staff within the Miami University Libraries and under the direction of the strategic communications coordinator and works onsite.

Creates engaging and substantive written and/or visual content to tell the Miami Libraries’ stories and promote events and initiatives; contributes to the University Libraries’ social media presence, including staying current with trends and regularly assessing the overall Miami Libraries’ social media strategy; provides direction, editorial support and general communications-side upkeep of the Miami University Libraries website; oversees University Libraries’ email marketing communications, including internal communications, student communications, and communications to faculty and staff; works closely with libraries’ staff to promote events targeting student and campus audiences; manages assigned or self-initiated projects, including collaborating across the division and with various campus partners; supervises student workers, assigning and managing projects and tasks.

Require:  Bachelor’s degree; excellent communications skills, both oral and written; excellent editing skills, including technical knowledge, grammar and formatting; familiarity with content marketing and social media marketing; strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage complex tasks, set priorities and manage the involvement of other staff; commitment to strong customer service is essential; ability to deal with the pressure of deadlines; ability to collaborate and contribute in a team environment but also to show initiative and function under limited supervision.  Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Desire:  Three years or more experience in editing, writing, visual storytelling, social media management, public relations or a related field; basic familiarity with email marketing platforms, such as Emma; experience with a website content management system; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere. Proficient in PowerPoint.
