University of Dayton — Assistant Director of Student Transitions and Family Programs

Reporting to the Director of Student Transitions & Family Programs, the Assistant Director is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and assessment of transition and orientation programs that support and enhance the transitions of new students and their families as they transition in and through the institution. This position leads the department’s efforts to design, implement, manage, and assess transition programs for undergraduate students. The Asst. Director oversees all departmental social media and assists with all technology and other multi-media. This position, in partnership with the Director and Assistant Director, assists with New Student Move-in and supports parent/family programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher/Adult Education, College Student Personnel, Student Development, Organizational/Educational Leadership or an equivalent degree program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience developing educational programs, coordinating events, and training, supervising, and evaluating undergraduate student staff.
  • Demonstrated skills in designing publications and promotional information.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a track record of working effectively with students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills (written and oral)
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of student development
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to prioritize concurrent or conflicting deadlines, analyze and make decisions related to program content.
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Proficiency in and the ability to manage websites
  • Proficiency in the use of various social media
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • The ability to maintain high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment.
  • Valid driver’s license, with a low risk driving record, and insurable by the University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in orientation programming for undergraduate students
  • One year experience, beyond the graduate school, working in higher education administrative work involving admissions, orientation programs, leadership development, student activities, student life, or related field.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and facilitating training and educational sessions
  • Demonstrated experience with designing, planning, implementing and assessing orientation, transition and/or retention programming
  • Demonstrated ability to recruiting, directing, and managing a large group of student employees.
  • Demonstrated experience with training, supervising, and evaluating graduate student staff.
  • Demonstrated innovation in leadership development and programming for college students.
