The Assistant Director for the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities is a full-time, 12-month position within the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, reporting directly to the Assistant Dean/Director for the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. This position is responsible for assisting with the administration of the Student Code of Conduct, outreach and marketing efforts to promote student responsibility and civility, and development of students as responsible citizens and members of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro community.

The Assistant Director is a central part of UNCG’s effort to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. This position works closely with the UNCG Police Department and other Student Affairs departments to ensure effective collaboration on behalf of college students. The Assistant Director is responsible for assessment, marketing, communication-related services, and facilitating collaborations with departments across campus.

The Assistant Director position utilizes counseling, training, organizational, and advocacy skills in working with students, families, faculty, staff, the police, attorneys and others during the conduct process. The Assistant Director must have the ability to listen attentively, help students and family members list and prioritize options, identify campus and community resources, and balance a multitude of details. The Assistant Director must continually balance the needs of the individual while upholding the policies and processes of the University and considering equity for all students. The Assistant Director works directly with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the institution and therefore must be able to work well in cooperation with others. The Assistant Director must be able to deal effectively with emotionally charged situations and disruptive individuals, and use professional and appropriate language and behavior to seek a win-win resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
Receive and resolve reports of alleged student and/or student organization misconduct.

Serves as a hearing officer for the Conduct and Academic Integrity processes.

Ensure the effective scheduling, establishment, and execution of student conduct and academic integrity hearings which requires coordinating the schedules of several faculty and/or staff members and students on a regular basis.

Measuring the student learning outcomes for Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities programs and services which includes maintaining assessment files, monitoring assessment projects, assisting staff with individual projects and updating assessment reports yearly.

Quality comprehensive training and development program for hearing officers, faculty, staff, and students to qualify them to serve during the conduct and academic integrity hearing processes including primary responsibility for initial and ongoing training of Housing and Residence Life professional, graduate and student staff on all issues related to student conduct.

Oversee the Title IX adjudications and processes of the office within the guidelines of the Student Code of Conduct including case management duties and assisting with correspondence to individuals in the case.

Respond to students in personal crisis through intervention such as referral to on and off campus resources, and makes independent decisions about the severity of the issue and appropriately responds.

Serve in the University’s crisis, on-call duty rotation during evenings and weekends and respond to campus-wide or community-wide disasters that impact the University as directed even when not on-call.

Supervise graduate assistants and graduate interns.

Minimum Qualifications:
A master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling or another appropriate field of graduate study is required. Direct experience in judicial processes and student behavior management is also required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) years of post-graduate experience in student conduct or student affairs, experience working with conduct boards, experience with Maxient software, and knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Clery Act, Title IX, VAWA, and other applicable federal/state guidelines and laws that affect the practice of student conduct administration.

The Assistant Director will be a member of a highly functioning team that includes graduate and undergraduate students. A working knowledge of legal issues in higher education as well as the ability to multi-task and remain positive in a fast paced environment is crucial. The Assistant Director must be able to commit to a philosophy of excellent service, compassion, and creative problem solving.
