Job Description
The Associate Director will provide strategic leadership and direction in the delivery of a range of programs and services designed to enhance the educational and co-curricular experiences of residential students Iiving in University Housing. The Associate Director provides supervision to Assistant Directors of Residence Life and Education. ln addition, the Associate Director supports the Assistant Director of Academic lnitiatives who works closely with staff and faculty in the development and maintenance of living learning communities. The Associate Director provides guidance and vision in the creation of innovative opportunities for students to connect with academics outside of the classroom and leadership experiences within the residential communities. The Associate Director of Residence Life and Education is the liaison with the academic community of the university.This position/classification may be moved at management’s discretion within the SDES division to a commensurate level position as determined by the Vice President of Student Development and Enrollment Services or his/her designee.

  • Support the Director of Residence Life and Education with developing, and implementing departmental vision, mission and goals.
  • Support the Director of Residence Life and Education with developing, updating, and maintaining manuals,processes and programs that are intentionally designed to promote student safety, leaning, and contribute to retention and student success.
  • Support the Director of Residence Life and Education and community staff during critical and crisis events and developing after action reports.
  • Supervise 3 – 5 Assistant Directors who oversee residential communities and collateral areas such as: residential curriculum, student conduct, staff training, staff selection and recruitment, student leadership and inclusive initiatives.
  • Oversee the planning, execution and review of departmental assessment efforts including satisfaction surveys, residential curriculum learning outcomes and student retention.
  • Collaborate with offices in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services including, but not limited to, the Division Leadership, Dean of Students, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Student Care Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, UCF Ombuds Offlce, University Police, and the Office of Emergency Management.
  • Oversee, monitor and evaluate a residential curriculum plan for all residential populations, living leaning communities and special interest populations that enhance the student experience, further program development and supports university retention; infuse the residential curriculum throughout all policies, procedures, operations and training within residence life and education.
  • Assist with developing, disseminating and training on all standard operating procedures for Residence Life and Education.
  • Serve in an on-call schedule with the Director of Residence Life and Education providing direct support to Assistant Directors, Coordinators, Graduate Coordinators and student staff.
  • Assist with overseeing and providing guidance for the residence life 24 hour (professional, graduate and student staff) on-call coverage system and resources.
  • Assist with developing and managing the Residence Life and Education budget of approximately $150,000.
  • Serve on the University Emergency Management Team. Provides leadership to residence life staff members in crisis situations. Is considered an essential staff member is an emergency event.
  • Serve as a point of contact for escalating, sensitive and high-level complaints that require guardian or parental follow-up.
  • Assist with planning and executing opening and closings of the residence hall facilities related to the start and end of each semester, during holiday periods, and special events.
  • Assist with developing, disseminating and reviewing all materials and manuals that maintain the functions of Residence Life and Education.
  • Assist with the creation, dissemination and review of department operational calendar.
  • Assist with preparing agenda, coordinating with invited guests and attending weekly meetings with Residence Life leadership.
  • Collaborate with all units within the department regarding training, projects, timelines, policies and procedures related to the function of our residential communities.
  • Serve in a senior departmental role working autonomously and collaborative, as needed, to resolve all issues within the Residence Life and Education.
  • Serve on internal and external committees representing the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
  • Prepare and submit data for monthly, annual and emergency reports, including but not limited to Clery.
  • Prepare agenda, coordinate with invited guests and attend weekly meetings with residential staff. Maintain a record or meetings agendas and attendance.
  • Provide supervisory support for residential communities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • 10 years of full-time, progressively responsible higher education supervisory/leadership experience within student housing operations and residential life, or the equivalent, is required, with a minimum of three years in a leadership/management role.
  • Experience at a mid-sized to large university with a housing and residential life population of at least 6,000 residents.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and review of a residential curriculum.
  • Experience working collaboratively with campus offices and departments.
  • Experience with converting qualitative and quantitative data into executive summaries and visual presentations.
  • Experience with assessment data programs (i.e. Qualtrics and SPSS)
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of surveys, reports and data and provide summary reports. Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively with diverse students, staff and faculty.

This position title may change based on a classification and compensation study UCF is currently conducting. The title of this position may be impacted.
