The Division of Student Life is comprised of staff members who embrace new ideas and work together to keep students safe while providing them with life-changing experiences. The Division of Student Life includes 13 departments that span from Recreational Services to Student Involvement and Leadership and everything in between. They believe in working together as one team to achieve their mission—fostering student success by creating and promoting inclusive educationally purposeful services and activities within and beyond the classroom. One of the division priorities is to advance UI’s goals to recruit and retain underrepresented U.S. racial/ethnic minority (URM) staff and students.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life, the Director, Student Health provides senior leadership, direction, management, and coordination of Student Health functions to support and promote the health of students within a top-level, Big 10, AAAHC-accredited student health clinic. These functions include providing students comprehensive, effective, accessible, and timely primary care including mental health and offering preventive health screenings and services and monitoring the campus environment to prevent or control the transmission of infectious diseases among students on campus while maintaining a financially sound and self-supporting organization. The director serves as a campus health expert, promoting the profession of college health and actively participating in the American College Health Association and other national organizations. In alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, the director is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is a key participant in creating the vision for a culture of well-being on campus, through collaboration with Student Wellness, Recreational Services, University Counseling Service, Student Disability Services, and other partners. IU’s Student Health environment includes 12 providers (MD and mid-level), CLIA-approved moderate complexity laboratory, NurseLine, two Nurse Care clinics on campus, and allergy, travel, gynecology, and psychiatry services.

Minimum qualifications include an advanced degree (examples: MHA, Doctorate) in a field related to clinical health services and a minimum of typically 10 years of progressive experience as a clinical-leader including design, development, and direction of health-related programs and services, responsibility for fiscal management, budget development, supervision of medical and non-medical staff members, training, and performance management. In addition, the successful candidate will have knowledge of quality assessment and improvement procedures and evidence-based practices in health care management, patient care, and prevention programs and extensive knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams in a mission-centered environment, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as strong interest and skill in working with diverse populations are all required qualifications.

Desired qualifications include a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and licensed or eligible for licensure as an MD or DO in the state of Iowa. Experience in primary care, pediatrics, internal medicine, or family medicine as well as experience with college health and an understanding of college health models. Further, healthcare administration certification(s) such as Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), Certified Medical Manager (CMM), or related and experience within a collective bargaining environment are also desirable.
