Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Director of Student Activities, provides administrative and program management for the Community Outreach Programs, Services and Initiatives (“Community Outreach”) area in the Department of Student Activities. 


  1. Plans and implements program services and activities, in Community Outreach, and supervises the day-to-day delivery of program content.
  2. Directs the day-to-day operation and administration of Community Outreach in accordance with program goals and objectives; oversees program coordination and logistics; prepares necessary reports; resolves problems and makes changes to accommodate changing priorities and needs.
  3. Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates professional, classified, and student staff; recommends staffing needs; determines work assignments and work schedules to most effectively meet Community Outreach needs.
  4. Performs office management duties for Community Outreach; directs the workflow and supervises the necessary administrative paperwork, records, complex filing system to support program, including fiscal, personnel and student records.
  5. Makes budget recommendations and manages approved budget for Community Outreach; approves expenditures, within broad guidelines, and prepares budget reports and projections.
  6. Plans, organizes and administers workshops, training programs, program curricula, in accordance with Community Outreach, Student Activities, and Student Affairs goals.
  7. Serves as a resource to students, staff and others on matters relating to Community Outreach policies, procedures and activities.
  8. Engages in public relations and promotional activities for the Community Outreach; supervises the planning and implementation of participant recruiting and program promotional strategies, in Community Outreach.
  9. Collects and analyzes program data and participates in evaluating program effectiveness; identifies problems and makes changes, within prescribed guidelines, or recommends major changes.
  10. Assists in developing policies and procedures.
  11. May participate in securing funding for the program.
  12. Keeps informed of and monitors compliance with state licensing, professional certification or accreditation requirements where relevant.
  13. Oversees training, assessment, program evaluation, and research activities that may be conducted in the program.
  14. Is responsible for special projects/operations which may be on-going or short-term and which require planning, coordination, supervision and thorough knowledge of Community Outreach.
  15. Performs related duties as required.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate for community outreach and four to five years relevant experience; or Master’s degree and two to four years of relevant experience.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of community outreach programs and services.
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve day-to-day problems that would occur in community outreach.
  4. Demonstrated excellent administrative skills, including ability to identify and resolve administrative problems.
  5. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize workshops/training courses/curricula related to community outreach.
  7. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administrators as well as external agencies/groups and the public.
  8. Demonstrated experience and ability to work with and support diverse student populations.


  1. Experience working in or with groups designed to advocate for groups or constituencies that are marginalized based on identity or life experience.
  2. Experience working in organizations that serve communities from a community centered and social justice perspective.
  3. Master’s degree in a related field.
  4. Experience managing grants.
  5. Experience supervising volunteers.
  6. Experience supervising youth and/or students.
  7. Experience supervising professional staff.
  8. Experience in fundraising and donor relations.
  9. Experience managing budgets effectively.
  10. Experience with assessment and/or program evaluation.
  11. Involvement in relevant professional organizations.
