Three African American Men Appointed to Public Safety Posts in Academia

Anthony Purcell has been elected president of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. He is associate vice president and chief of police at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Purcell holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in criminal justice from North Carolina Central University.

Xavier Redmond has been named chief and director of university police for Mississippi Valley State University. He was a lieutenant with the Greenville Police Department.

Redmond is a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University where he majored in criminal justice.

Marc R. Partee has been named director of the department of public safety at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He is a 22-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department and recently served as an adjunct professor at Stevenson University in Pikesville, Maryland.

Partee holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Morgan State University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Baltimore.

Dr. Harris had a long career in higher education leadership, serving as interim or permanent president of five historically Black institutions: Paine College, Texas Southern University, Alabama State University, Fort Valley State University, and Texas College.
