James Madison University’s College of Education is accepting applications for the Director of the Pruden Educational Technology and Media Center.

The Pruden Educational Technology and Media Center (ETMC), located within the College, is committed to preparing all students to be knowledgeable users of educational technology. The ETMC promotes the use of emerging technologies for learning and is responsive to educational technology needs of faculty and students in these programs.

About the College of Education
James Madison University was established in 1908 as a state normal school for women; consequently, the College of Education (CoE) has the longest history of any college at the university. The Director of the ETMC has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Direct and provide oversight for operations and activities of the Pruden Educational Technology & Media Center (ETMC) in the CoE.
  • Provide direct supervision for classified staff members and coordinate oversight for student employees and graduate assistants of the ETMC.
  • Provide leadership and support for educational technology initiatives among faculty, staff and students in the CoE. This includes but is not limited to: create professional development activities, conduct class presentations, assist with facilitation of undergraduate or graduate courses, and participate in educational technology professional organizations and conferences.
  • Serve the CoE through active participation in college committees, task forces or ad hoc working groups, and participate in university-wide educational technology planning groups at the discretion of the CoE Dean.
  • Maintain and foster active collaborative working relationships among multiple CoE and university entities including: CoE library liaison, Educational Technology faculty members, JMU Libraries, Media Resources, Innovation Services, and JMU Information Technology.
  • Coordinate purchasing of CoE educational technology equipment and resources.
  • Chair CoE Technology Committee, initiating and facilitating discussions and decision-making.
  • Contact, coordinate and collaborate with JMU IT staff.
  • Oversee the CoE website and server infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in educational technology or related field required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Evidence of effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Proficiency with a variety of educational technologies.
  • Demonstrate effective supervisory and management skills (e.g. leadership, planning, budgeting, evaluation, communication, and delegation).
  • Experience planning, delivering and evaluating professional development of learners across the lifespan.
  • Successful interactions / engagement with diverse persons, processes, and ideas.

  • A concise statement of no more than two pages that describes the candidate’s vision for a 21st Century educational technology media center (as Other Document #1).

Candidates will be asked to provide three professional references with contact information as part of the application. References should be able to speak knowledgeably to the candidate’s interpersonal skills and proficiency with educational technologies. References will not be contacted until a candidate is being considered for a campus visit.
