Two African Americans Appointed to Dean Posts at Community Colleges

Javon Brame has been named dean of students at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado. He has been serving as the director of academic advising, retention, and persistence at the Community College of Denver.

Brame holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Langston University in Oklahoma and a master’s degree in higher education from the University of Denver.

Carol Ash has been named interim dean of the School of Health, Wellness & Public Safety at Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque. She had previously been a director at Chicago’s Kennedy King College.

Dr. Ash holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and a doctorate of education from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

  1. Kudos to both schools for simply selecting the most qualified candidates without discriminating. This makes me view both colleges more postitively. Excited to see what you both do!
