Job Description Summary:
Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 45 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately 45 minutes from Lake Michigan's eastern shore is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced Full-Time Faculty Member in our Department of Visual & Performing Arts.

Our curriculum is designed to offer transfer credit for foundations-level coursework in a broad range of courses that promote critical thinking through hands-on learning, critical dialogue, and development of a learning community. Our graphic design program also has the option of a two-year occupational degree.

Teaching responsibilities include a course load in graphic design foundation, typography, digital publishing and advanced graphic design courses. The ideal candidate is an exceptional, dedicated teacher with an active studio practice in art and/or design, an active professional record, and vigorous interest in contemporary art design issues.

Required Qualifications:
-Master’s Degree in Graphic Design or a Master’s degree in an art-related field with a minimum of 18 graduate level credit hours in Graphic Design-related courses.
-An active studio practice in art and/or design.

Preferred Qualifications:
MFA in Graphic Design or an MFA in an art-related field with at least 18 credit hours in Graphic Design-related courses, along with previous teaching experience or a combination or education and experience commensurate with the duties of this position.
-Experience teaching at a college level, ideally in a community college environment.
-An active professional record and vigorous interest in contemporary art design issues.

Other Information:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Teach a range of college level courses in graphic design with an interdisciplinary focus related to print and Web design, multimedia, interactive media and motion graphics.
-Teach graphic design software, including applications within the Adobe Creative Cloud, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat.
-Effectively use instructional technology (internet, instructional software, Moodle).
-Engage in professional development to maintain currency with design trends, teaching techniques, and advancements in software and emerging technologies.
-Demonstrate a strong commitment to student success.
-Demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity to issues of inclusion and diversity, both within the classroom and in the design field.
-Provide academic advising and the mentoring of students and adjunct instructors.
-Promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students.
-Collaborate in developing curriculum and new course offerings for the Graphic Design Technology program.
-Participate in departmental functions and college-wide activities to become an integral part of the department and college.
