Two African American College Leaders Honored With Notable Awards

Paula A. Johnson, president of Wellesley College in Massachusetts has received the 2018 Social Justice Award from Eastern Bank. The award recognizes community leaders who have achieved outstanding impact in addressing social justice issues. Dr. Johnson is being honored for contributions to advancing, promoting, and defending women’s education, health, and well-being. Dr. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree, a master of public health degree, and a medical doctorate all from Harvard University.

Phoebe A. Haddon, chancellor at Rutgers University-Camden, has received the 2019 Ruth Bader Ginsburg Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of American Law Schools Section on Women in Legal Education. The award honors individuals with exemplary careers that demonstrate outstanding contributions to the legal academy and the legal profession through their teaching, service, and scholarship. Chancellor Haddon will receive the award during the AALS annual meeting in New Orleans on January 4, 2019. She holds a juris doctorate from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a master of laws degree from Yale Law School.
